The offices of STRIVE-New Haven are also the home of the New Haven affiliate of Career Gear. Career Gear is a grassroots 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded in New York City in 1998 to promote the gainful employment and self-sufficiency of disadvantaged men who are actively seeking employment.  

Sponsored by Men’s Warehouse and Brooks Brothers, Career Gear provides men with interview-appropriate clothing, while STRIVE provides the employability training and post placement support. Career Gear’s philosophy is simple but powerful: Successful employment is a catalyst towards men emerging as fathers and leaders within their communities.  

Since 1999, Career Gear has helped 17,500 disconnected and underserved job-seeking men from across the country become self-sufficient members of their communities. By providing interview counseling and business attire, Career Gear offers vital services to men of all ages and ethnic backgrounds, as well as recipients of public assistance, the disabled, recovering addicts, Iraqi war veterans, former foster care children, recent immigrants, and the formerly incarcerated. Career Gear invests in men who have begun to turn their lives around. Career Gear isn’t just for STRIVE graduates, their services are available to other clients from the New Haven area who have successfully graduated from similar job training programs.
